Bucket List Entry

Image
Cross this off my bucket list ... Stonehenge. United Kingdom, September 2022. It's now roped off so you can't get that close and, in reference to the Griswald's, you can't back into one and cause a domino effect.

And another from Kings Park Bluff. Common House Sparrow. EXIF: Shutter: 1/500. Aperture: f/8. ISO: 200. Focal Length: 300mm. Good example of Bokah (blurred background), using a long focal length compresses the image and depth of field.

Wow - it's been six months since my last post. No excuses, just haven't been feeling creative. However, earlier this month, I decided to dust off the Canon 70D with my Tamron 16-300 zoom and nudge my creativity back. [I've been using a Canon G9x high-end point and shoot for taking quick "snapshots" recently. At times, a little disappointing.] As you all know, I like to take photos of things that fly (birds, airplanes, UFO's, etc). Here's a new one of a mockingbird (although not flying). Taken at the Kings Park Bluff, Kings Park, NY on June 9, 2022. Shutter: 1/400. Aperture: f/8. ISO: 200. Focal length: 300mm. PHOTO TIP : I normally don't like taking photos at the maximum zoom of my lens. Primarily, I'm not as steady as I used to be and secondly, I'm a firm believer of not using maximum zoom. Photography 101 advice: If you zoom in on your subject, then before press that shutter, zoom back out a little. You can always crop things OUT of your ph...

Once again ... things that fly. A Great Blue Heron sitting along the shore of Sunken Meadow Creek in Sunken Meadow State Park in Fort Salonga, Long Island, NY. Original image shot with a Canon Powershot G9 X and cropped in post processing. #sunkenmeadow #greatblueheron #birdphotography #canon #g9x

This is a Curtiss P-40 Warhawk. Taken at Republic Airport, Farmingdale, NY. Exposure: 1/500 sec, f/8.0, ISO 100. 238mm focal length. Canon 70D w/Tamron 16-300mm zoom Yes - I like taking photos of things that fly.

Black & White Photography

Image
Ever since I first got involved with photography, I've always been fascinated by black and white. It's my feeling that it takes on a more artistic expression. The above photo, taken along the boardwalk to the Fire Island Lighthouse, Robert Moses State Park field 5, was shot at f/8.0, 1/200 sec and ISO 100 (That's a little bit of sun glare in the upper right.) Canon 70D, Tamron 16-300 at 35mm (~50mm full-frame equivalent). It is important to note that this image was not shot in "Monochrome" mode on the camera. It was shot in full RAW and converted to black and white in post processing. I do not recommend ever shooting in B&W on your camera ... you can always convert a color image to B&W, but if you shoot in B&W, the color is lost.
